Dear West San Jose NJB Division and All Net Families
NJB is a community-based program that relies upon volunteers to run the various Silicon Valley chapters. As you are all aware, the cost of NJB continues to push higher, especially here in Silicon Valley, primarily as a result of higher gym rental costs. As a result, every year, West San Jose NJB awards scholarships to help defer the cost of NJB to a number of families in our community. In order to continue to provide such scholarships we are holding a Free-Throw-A-Thon on Sunday, November 20, 2016. A Free-Throw-A-Thon is similar to the Walk-A-Thons that schools hold, except instead of sponsoring a lap around the track, you sponsor a made free throw. Sponsors are also free to just provide “flat” sponsorship. All the funds raised will be allocated to scholarships for West San Jose families. All amounts donated are tax deductible and only individual amounts in excess of $75 will receive a receipt.
How it Works
Each player is given an opportunity to shoot 100 free throws. Shots will be taken from the NJB designated spot for the specific division. The Free-Throw-A-Thon will be held for all teams on Sunday, November 20, 2016 in 45 minute blocks starting at 9:00 am at Monroe Middle and Rolling Hills for D1, D2 and All Net Teams (5th – 8th grade) (total of 24 teams) and in 1 hour blocks at Campbell Middle for D3 Teams and 4th Grade All Net (8 teams)(yes, the younger players get more time). Each team will have the gym to themselves. Team General Managers should contact the gym scheduler (Erel) to reserve their time. Any team that has not reserved a time by November 6 will be assigned a time. The teams and parents are free to bring music and plan an after-party. Please remember no food or pets are allowed at gyms.
A contest is not a contest without some prizes. So to encourage your players to practice free throws over the next few weeks – the following prizes will be awarded:
- Post-Season Pizza Party at Round Table – the top 3 fundraising teams will win a post-season pizza party at Round Table Pizza on Stevens Creek.
- Spalding TF-1000 Balls – each top free-throw percentage team (determined on an aggregate basis – all team players must participate to be eligible – no exceptions) in each of Boys Division 1, 2 and 3 and All Net (so 4 teams) and the top Girls Division team and top Girls All Net team will receive a Spalding TF-1000 game day ball. At the end of the season, the coach will award the ball to the best “game day” free throw player on the team. In addition, the best free throw shooter in the entire WSJ Chapter will receive a TF-1000 ball.
- Dri-Fit T-Shirts – the top 5 free-throw percentage players in each of Boys Division 1, 2 and 3 and All-Net (4,5 & 6 combined) and (7 & 8 combined) and the top 2 free-throw percentage players in each of Girls Division 1, 2 and 3 and 1 in each of All Net 5 and 7 will have their choice of a “vintage” WSJ shooting shirt or a WSJ NJB black dri-fit t-shirt
Thank you for your continued support of the WSJ chapter. We hope that each team can use the Free-Thow-A-Thon as a means to support the players in their skill development while helping our scholarship fund.
Go West San Jose NJB!
