Programs

West San Jose NJB offers several basketball programs for girls and boys in our area.

Division

The Division program is separate for boys and girls and divided into three age groups: Division 1 (7th/8th grade), Division 2 (5th/6th grade) and Division 3 (3rd/4th grade). All registered and confirmed players must be at the evaluation to be drafted onto balanced teams. To achieve this objective, requests are not considered to play with friends or for car pooling. Only the Head Coach’s child is guaranteed a place on a given team.

Division 3 players who cannot demonstrate the skills required during evaluations to play Division will be given the option to join the Rookie program instead.  If the player chooses not to join the Rookie program after being provided the option, then a full refund will be provided.

Each player in the division program plays at least two full periods per game. Division play is five eight minute running clock periods. Each team plays regular season games plus playoffs from December through March.

All-Net

The All-Net Division was created to further the skills of players, both girls and boys that are interested in playing basketball for their high school program. It allows for a higher level of competition and operates under different premises than NJB regular Divisional basketball.

This program has All-Net (Select) teams for 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade boys.  The availability of All-Net teams for girls grades 5th thru 8th is dependent on the number of registered players each season.

All-Net players are selected through tryouts. Players must have registered in the home chapter and have a waiver (if needed) to be eligible to attend the tryout. Players will be evaluated based on ability level by an impartial group that will exclude the All Net coaches. Players will be playing other All-Net teams in four seven minute stop clock quarters. All-Net teams play a regular season plus playoffs. Players who do not make All-Net teams are eligible to play in our Division program, which has postseason playoffs and All Star teams.

Rookie

The Rookie Program was created to provide a development program for players who are entering NJB ( 1st, 2nd and some 3rd grade ) with little or no basketball experience and who would benefit from participating in a structured program with a focus on skills development, basketball fundamentals and structured game time. For this program your child does not have to be within our chapter boundaries. There is one practice per week. Rookie season begins in December and postseason Playoff Tournament in February. Games are on Sundays.

Division 3 players who cannot demonstrate the skills required to play Division will be given the option to join the Rookie Program instead.  If the player chooses not to join the Rookie Program after being provided the option, then a full refund will be provided.

Next Level Prep

This program is intended for those boys who are not playing for their high school team. (In fact, CCS rules state that players cannot play for their school and an outside league at the same time.) Registration for the NJB Next Level Prep Division program is timed to occur after the local high schools have made their cuts, usually in mid November. Typically we field a couple of teams at both the Lower Division (9th/10th grade) and Higher Division (11th/12th) levels. See the Next Level Prep Division Program page for more details.
