West San Jose NJB is an all-volunteer organization. It is expected that each family will contribute a minimum of 8 hours of volunteer work per season.

Please print and fill out the Volunteer Form (PDF format) to record your volunteer activity for the season. At the beginning of the season, we will collect a volunteer deposit from each family. The check will be returned with the return of a completed volunteer form at the end of the season.

Chapter Director reports to the Section Director for a term of 2 years and is Voting member of the board. Responsibilities include: Coordinate Chapter within Section; Attend Sectional and Chapter BOD meetings; Communicate Section activities to Chapter; Review/Approve Player Waivers; Review/Approve Team Binders. President reports to the Chapter Director for a term of 2 years and is Voting member of the board. Responsibilities include: Coordinate Chapter Operations; Conduct Chapter BOD meetings; Appoint/hire non-voting members of BOD. Vice President reports to the President for a term of 2 years and is Voting member of the board. Responsibilities include: Coordinate all Winter Programs (Rookie; Division 3; Division 2; Division 1; All-Net; High School); Coordinate Skills Clinics; Attend Chapter BOD meetings. Treasurer reports to the President for a term of 2 years and is Voting member of the board. Responsibilities include: Create/Manage Chapter budget; Manage Deposits and Payments; Coordinate Sponsors; Coordinate Chapter Financial Statement; Coordinate Tax filings; Attend Chapter BOD meetings. Secretary reports to the President for a term of 2 years and is Voting member of the board. Responsibilities include: Coordinate Chapter/Section/National communication; Maintain/Distribute Chapter BOD meeting minutes; Secure insurance certificates from National; Coordinate Chapter Web-Site; Coordinate Registration; Attend Chapter BOD meetings. Girls Player Agent reports to the President for a term of 2 years and is Voting member of the board. Responsibilities include: Ensure welfare of female players at all times; Mediate disputes between coaches and players; Coordinate evaluations/tryouts; Coordinate team selection; Coordinate All-Star selection; Manage team rosters; Attend Chapter BOD meetings. Boys Player Agent reports to the President for a term of 2 years and is Voting member of the board. Responsibilities include: Coordinate Chapter/Team sponsors; Provide sponsors with requested information and recognition (web-site listing, plaque w/team picture); Coordinate Chapter fundraising activities; Attend Chapter BOD meetings. Division 4 Coordinator reports to the Vice President for a term of 1 year and is non-voting member of the board. Responsibilities include: Coordinate program for 1st and 2nd grade players to develop beginning basketball skills in a clinical and fun environment; Select coaches; Coordinate clinics/practices/games; Act as primary liaison between coaches and Chapter BOD; Attend Chapter BOD meetings. Division 3 Coordinator reports to the Vice President for a term of 1 year and is non-voting member of the board. Web-Site Coordinator reports to the Secretary for a term of 1 year and is non-voting member of the board. Registration Coordinator reports to the Secretary for a term of 1 year and is non-voting member of the board. Responsibilities include: Coordinate player registration; Coordinate volunteer registration; Attend Chapter BOD meetings. Schedule Coordinator reports to the Operations Manager for a term of 1 year and is non-voting member of the board. Responsibilities include: Schedule gym time for all Chapter activities; Schedule team practices within NJB and Chapter guidelines; Ensure practice time parity within Player Programs; Attend Chapter BOD meetings. Time required is estimated at: ~1 hrs/week during Pre-Season, (August – December); ~1 hrs/week during Season, (August – December); ~1 hrs/week during Post-Season, (February – April).
Special Event Coordinator reports to the Operations Manager for a term of 1 year and is non-voting member of the board. Responsibilities include: Coordinate Picture Day; Buy Trophies and Prizes; Coordinate Closing Ceremonies; Attend Chapter BOD meetings. Game Day Coordinator reports to the Operations Manager for a term of 1 year and is non-voting member of the board. Responsibilities include: Open/Close Game Gym; Manage Gym Bags; Attend Chapter BOD meetings. Equipment Coordinator reports to the Operations Manager for a term of 1 year and is non-voting member of the board. Responsibilities include: Manage Chapter and team equipment; Purchase/Distribute team uniforms; Coordinate printing All-Net and All-Star uniforms; Purchase/Distribute practice balls, Scorebooks, first-aid kits. Head Coach reports to the Program Coordinator for a term of 1 year and is non-voting member of the board. Responsibilities include: Evaluate players; Draft team; Coach practices; Coach games; Report player issues/injuries to Player Agent; Support Program Coordinator requests. Time required is estimated at: ~4 hrs/week during Pre-Season, (October – December); ~7 hrs/week during Season, (October – December); ~7 hrs/week during Post-Season, (February – April).
Assistant Coach reports to the Program Coordinator for a term of 1 year and is non-voting member of the board. Responsibilities include: Support Coach during Practices and Games; Serve as Coach during Head Coach absence; Support Program Coordinator requests. Time required is estimated at: ~4 hrs/week during Pre-Season, (November – December); ~7 hrs/week during Season, (November – December); ~7 hrs/week during Post-Season, (February – April).
Team Scorekeeper reports to the Program Coordinator for a term of 1 year and is non-voting member of the board. Responsibilities include: Attend Scorekeeper training sessions; Maintain scorebook during Games; Support Program Coordinator requests. Team Parent reports to the Program Coordinator for a term of 1 year and is non-voting member of the board. Responsibilities include: Coordinate communication amongst Team Staff and Parents; Coordinate Team Snack Schedule; Coordinate Team Pictures; Coordinate Team Party; Support Program Coordinator requests. BOD Member Shadow reports to the President for a term of 1 year and is non-voting member of the board. Responsibilities include: Shadow BOD position to observe and learn responsibilities; participate as desired and under the direction of the BOD; Attend Chapter BOD meetings; Volunteer for BOD Position for next season. School Champions assist with the recruitment of players from the schools within the West San Jose Chapter boundaries. School Champions will be assigned to the school where the volunteer’s child attends (elementary or middle school) if possible. Only one School Champion will be assigned to a given school. To be a School Champion, you will be expected to meet with individuals at your child’s school such as the Principal, Athletic Director, Girls and Boys Basketball coaches, PE teachers, etc. to explain our NJB program and to ask for the school’s help in getting the word out to students in grades 3-8. Also, you will be provided with flyers to give to the school to post and to send home to families and / or an email that can be sent out to families. For public schools this may involve visiting the School District Office for permission to post or distribute our flyer.
